Annemieke Montagne is a Ōtepoti-born queer tattoo artist currently residing in Ōtautahi, Aotearoa. Their work is expressive, challenging and often features unsettling compositions and subject matter. Much of their work stems from self reflection, queerness and the analysis of that insight, and so often has a commanding physical presence. Their compositions have been described as a halfway marker between Aubrey Beardsley’s decadent Art Nouveau prints and neo-expressionist George Baselitz’s paintings. Montagne describes their own work as a new age abstract.
