What’s up! My name is Jay Skelton. I fight crime and make art under the name Daken.
Garage sales, nostalgia, and Kiwiana were the themes I explored with this show.
I always found a certain magic in planning out a day of garage sales to hit, sifting through someone else’s unwanted things,
and finding something you didn’t even know you wanted/needed. One person’s trash, another’s treasure.
This body of work was put together with a wide variety of mediums and materials, hopefully giving a similar eclectic
sense you get when going to a garage sale. But also, I just really like using different techniques when creating.
My core focus lately has been Bootleg Art Toys, a medium and community I have been exploring for the last 4 years.
I feel like using toys as a medium allows me to connect with the past in a more direct way.
