Organick Mechanix
Benjamin Mills
Benjamin Mills is a recent import to Ōtautahi, having spent the last 10 years in the Tasman region. He has spent 20 years as a high school art teacher, before taking a break to deliver his first solo exhibition, "Organick mechanix" The work draws from all sorts of realms. The many dog walks on the ever changing New Brighton beach, the colours of dreams, the funny creatures you see floating in your eyes when you look at the sky. Amoeba and things that grow in the earth, and maybe in us. He also experiments with stitching as a paint medium. In many ways, the works are a reflection of him, ever changing, full of a spectrum of colour and shape that he morphs into depending on the time of day, how much coffee he's ingested, and how queer he happens to be feeling in that moment.
